Vroom-Vroom, Cruisin’ the Dunes

Friends + Family

18 Feb

It started off innocuously enough. A hum here, a warble there. An innocent toe tap (or two) while Mikey and Nico sang along at the tops of their voices with Tyrone, Uniqua, Pablo, Austin, and Tasha. Then, one day I watched The Backyardigans video on T.V. when the kids weren’t in the room. Believe me, I didn’t look for it; it appeared like a ray of light from T.V. I keep on like background music.

When it played again days later I thought, my that tune is catchy.

Eh, eh, something something dunes.
Hm, hm, something about dunes.

Jules: Mikey, what’s that song I like that Pablo sings?
Mikey: Vroom-Vroom, Cruisin’ the Dunes! It’s when Pablo is on his way to catch some waves at Tikki Beach!
Jules: Thanks. Just so you know, my life is over.
Mikey: No it’s not, mama. You’re right here.
Jules: Exactly.

Exhibit A:

Backyardigans – Cruisin The Dunes – the backyardigans

Yesterday I heard another Backyardigan song I like even more. In my defense, Alicia Keys sings in this one. The song is about the planet Mars and how everything is called Boinga because that’s the Martians’ favorite word and it’s all sung to this catchy island beat and I’ll just be quiet now.

Exhibit B: (This time, with video!)

I am arrogant enough to believe I am not alone. Maybe not Backyardigans, but somewhere out there are moms who whistle softly under their breath the tune to a song they should not know. Admit it. I promise you it feel great to finally get it off your chest.

Me–well I’m a Yo Gabba Gabba girl. Like Beatles fans who were partial to Paul or mybe John, I love Brobee the best.

I got into the Backyardigans last spring when the girls came to live with us. I realized I had a problem when I started to DVR-it so I could watch it at my convienance.

Yeah – the songs are total brain glue.

Veggie Tales. Little Joe specifically. It’s all she wants to watch, over and over and over. So I’m starting to memorize the songs. And sometimes they are stuck in my head, especially in the evening.

I don’t have kids so I don’t know any of the cartoon songs but, I will tell you a secret. I’m in love with Charlie and Lola. I seek them out. I can’t get enough of their voices. Maybe this is worse because I don’t have kids and I still watch them. I have no one to blame this on!

You’re totally not alone- I’ve been known to have “Ridin’ the range, ridin’ the range, ridin’ the range, yahoo!” stuck in my head numerous times. Yeti Stomp is a good one too! Crap…now they’re both in head!

I can sing the entire Spongebob Squarepants Yellow Album. The one that really sticks out is
“Ripped Pants”. It is very Beach Boys like and I find myself singing that a lot. Scaaaaary.

Hi, my name is Jessica, and I have an irrational obsession with children’s music.

I own two of the three They Might Be Giants kid’s cds.
I have Carole King’s Really Rosie on my iTunes.
My youngest sister is now 13 but I can still sing you songs from random Blues Clues episodes.
And after just one summer of babysitting, yes, I have since enjoyed the musical stylings of The Backyardigans.

    That did feel good

I thoroughly love the Backyardigans, but not Wow Wow Wubbzy. Wubzy is like animated ADHD. Oh. And I have a not so secret crush on Dan Zanes too.

Just found your blog from the Bright Side Project, and had to comment on this one because that freakin’ “Boinga” song is in my head all day everyday. Glad to know I’m not the only one. But you wanna know something even more disturbing? I like to dance along to the moves in the video. That alien has mad dancing skillz.

Ahhh, so here’s “Boinga”! I started the video, and within seconds, my daughters were right by me, and we’re all dancing and singing along. It would be embarrassing, but I’m obviously in good company.

dude – whatever you do, do NOT check out the CD “born to play” from the library and burn a copy so you can have it in the car.

if you do not heed this warning (i didn’t) you will never get the boinga song, tyrone the mailman, W-I-O-Waaa or any of the other insanely catchy songs out of your head.

    NEVER.

I posted a blog post on this many months ago and my son is still in love with the Backyardigans, we got the song stuck in our heads so much that we bought the “cruisin’ the dunes” beach buggy with Pablo and surfboard toy that you can get on Amazon. It is really cute and plays the song as well as other “phrases” from pablo!

as a single dad of 2 beautiful girls, the backyardigans music is our way to bond. I am a very musical person, and i have learned they are too. The backyardigans have music that we can enjoy together. anytime a tiki beach episode comes on, they have to come get me, and they have even made the babysitter call me and tell me my favorite song ‘cruisin the dunes’ song is on. that is the only song i cant find on Itunes, sadly. and that is because they jeep with me, and we cruise the North Carolina beaches. any clue?
