I don’t know how I ended up here, writing after so long. One minute I was applying museum wax to the bottom corners of a picture frame, mentally cataloging all the small projects I wanted to finish, and then the next minute, I was grabbing my laptop, and putting my list down in writing for easy reference. Procrastination or overwhelm or both, I suppose.
A new year is looming (birthday and the calendar year); I am feeling the pressure to reflect on a more accomplished 12 months. I haven’t done much following an intestinal revolt in June that didn’t resolve as quickly as the many other revolts I’ve endured over the decades. Age or stress or both, I suppose.
I spent the months since June in urgent cares, hospitals, and medical clinics. I have endured two CT scans, an abdominal ultrasound, a pelvic ultrasound, a small bowel follow-through, a colonoscopy, an endoscopy, a PillCam/capsule endoscopy, and countless biopsies and blood draws. My gastroenterologist promised me an answer soon, perhaps as early as next week. Whatever I have, it doesn’t appear to be cancer. There is plenty for which to be thankful.
Here is my countdown list of the odds and ends floating around in my head. My list centers mostly on personal projects. The last few months have been about showing up to work and doing my best despite feeling pretty awful, so I don’t feel the slightest bit guilty for reshifting my focus now that I am feeling stronger. I will not complete the list before the end of the year, but it would be nice to strike off a large swath of task items. Endless optimism or blind grit or both, I suppose.

I love a list. Yours sounds like a good and busy end of the year. I hope you finish as much calls to you (or even all of it) in good health without needing to lean too much on your grit. But that might be my optimism speaking.
Always love a post from you here!

Can we be list accountabilabuddies? We’ve been in the house for over a year now and my list isn’t shrinking. At all.
Jules says
Yes! Make a list and I will cheer you on. My remodel was over two years ago so I have you beat. :)
Becca Harrison says
Oh, I’m so glad to see a post from you!
I’ll be praying for answers to your health woes and strength to tackle this list.
Definitely add tinsel to your tree, we’ve done it the last two years and it brought me so much childhood nostalgia and joy.
Jules says
Thank you for the prayers! I was really hoping for a call today, but my phone was annoyingly silent. I’m excited to put up the tinsel. I hope it looks as nice as it does in pictures!

Enthusiastic yes to hanging tinsel!! It makes a tree even more sparkly. Hope your dinky do list (things to do as said by a lispy child) gets smaller and that crossing items off brings you much satisfaction. Wishing you good health.
Susan says
That lispy child was my uncle. My dad always has a dinky do list in honor of his brother and so do I!
Jules says
Thank you, Susan! A Dinky Do List sounds adorable. :)
Erin Etheridge says
I hope you get good, workable answers soon. Not gonna lie I am jealous of the right bookcases and home library :)
Jules says
Thank you. The bookcases are not custom or special (just IKEA) but they’ve lasted over 10 years and give the den a cozy feel. I like them!
