The summer is moving at an ever increasing clip. We haven’t been able to do the travel we intended because of the Mister’s new job, but we’ll do something before school starts again. In the meantime, we’ve been doing things I know the boys love, like visiting March Airfield Museum. We’ve gone to parties and stayed up late. We’ve signed up for our library’s reading program. Mikey checks out the same thing every week. Four books on military history and one book on dragons. “For a little variety, mom.”
Last night we had the second year anniversary party for the children’s choir. There is a talent/show-and-tell portion for the kids and Mikey played Jingle Bells on his clarinet (he taught himself that earlier in the week). There were a few times when it sounded like clown car landed in the middle of the living room, but he kept plugging along. At his age I would have stopped mid-note, walked out the door and hoofed it home. By the time my parents caught up with me, I would have already changed my name and hopped on a bus to a small town in the Midwest, sans clarinet.
Other than that, I can’t really tell you where the days go or what I do. All I can tell you is that everything is going so very fast.
p.s. Rainbow Rowell, the woman who wrote Eleanor and Park, will be in San Diego and Los Angeles next week for book readings. You should go!

“…clown car landed in the middle of the living room.” HA! I took up the clarinet in 4th grade and remember those errant notes. Well, not really notes. Congrats on raising a very confident son!

If you ever find yourself out in the Midwest with a new name and no clarinet, we have a pretty awesome Air Force museum your boys would probably love. :-)
Great job, Mikey! Playing in front of an audience take some serious guts!

I didn’t know Mikey was interested in military history! If your family should ever find yourselves up here in Seattle for some reason and you have time to spare, you might enjoy visiting the Flying Heritage Collection. It’s an unparalleled collection of vintage airplanes that have been restored to as near original historic condition as money (lots of money) can buy. And of course we have the Boeing Museum of Flight as well. And if he likes dragons, he will *love* the Danny Dragonbreath series by Ursula Vernon.
Have a great weekend, Jules!

Well then, when you come to visit we’ll have to take the boys to the Warhawk Museum . . . then we’ll go find ourselves some dinosaur bones.
*like how I say ‘when?’ Look at me, being all positive on a Monday morning!
