On $1,000,000
“If I had a lot of money, I would by a mansion and get a Lamborghini and build Iron Man suits and have lots of parties.”
On snacks
“Mom, never underestimate the power of a potato chip.”
On little brothers and yellow cards
“Really, Nico? You got another yellow card because your brain ‘went cuckoo’? Yeah, well, you know what type of brains go cuckoo? Brains on drugs. Are you on drugs?”
On what to do when your brain has a lot of words that want to come out
“Nico, I have the perfect solution. When your brain has a lot of words that want to come out, DON’T LET THEM COME OUT UNTIL RECESS. It’s kind of simple, really.”
On birthday presents
“Mom, tonight when you go to Target after I fall asleep to buy my birthday present, I would like for you to get me an N-Strike Nerf gun and an extra pack of bullets. You’ll find it on the end-cap next to the bikes.”

“Today is my last day of being 8. I’m a little excited, and a little sad because I’m never going to be 8 again, and I have a lot of great memories of being 8.”

Happy birthday, Mikey. I wish I could make Iron Man suits with Robert Downey Jr., too.
Jules says
Hahahaha!! So do a lot of people.

Happy Birthday to Mikey! Nine is even more awesome than eight!
Mary Evelyn Smith says
Happy Birthday Mikey! He cracks me up. Sounds like that kid is laying down some serious life lessons on his little brother! Awesome.
Jules says
Mikey is a rule follower, so it boggles his mind that Nico can’t just keep his mouth shut.
Phaedra says
First and most important, Happy Birthday Mikey! *it’s my mom’s birthday today, as well. Great day! Second, TOTALLY with him on the taco & pumpkin pie choices ..and reading! Third, partying like Robert Downey, Jr sounds really good, but.. umm.. hmmmm… ;)
Jules says
Tell me about it. He doesn’t know about Robert Downey Jr.’s past, but still…this boy is so eager to grow up! Until we talk about college. Then he asks if there are paleontology programs at our city college because he doesn’t want to leave home. :)
Phaedra says
Love it! (not the wanting to grow up too fast part- the paleontology at the city college!) Enjoy your day (because it’s your day, too! this is your first born wonder of a child! good work mama!) Celebrate!
Jenn says
Happy Birthday Mikey!
Your boys crack me up.
My girls spent a lot of time watching Dinosaur Train when I was pregnant, which contributed to the following exchange:
Family friend- “How do you like your new baby brother?”
6 year old daughter- “He’s cute, but he has a big head.”
Friend- “Sometimes babies need to grow into their heads.”
Daughter- “Yeah, just like Daspletosaurus needs to grow into it’s feet.”
Maybe she’ll be visiting Mikey’s dinosaur museum someday. She’d definitely vote for a space museum next door.
Susan G says
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIKEY!! Whatever you end up doing with your life will be great – and clearly should include building Iron Man Suits!
My big girl will be 24 on Sunday (with a real job – she sent me a copy of her health insurance card yesterday!) and the “baby” will turn 16 the next day. YIKES!

So sweet/funny/cute. Love these posts! Nice to have to look back on as the year’s go by, too!
Emily says
Hahaha! I want one like him. My husband and his family are all super smart, so maybe my kids will inherit that. ;)
Sounds like your guy has a good head on his shoulders. Just keep those video games and Internet access down (I’m 23 and sound like an old lady, I know).
Happy birthday!
Jules says
Hah! Don’t worry, Emily. I think Mikey’s video game response was a strong hint for us to let him play more. He only gets to play a few hours per month and when friends come over. :)

Tell Tony Stark…I mean MIKEY…that I hope he has a great birthday!
