My unstyled life isnt messy or clean or ugly or stunning. Instead, my goal is to create a home that reflects back the spirit and personality of our family. Its a work in progress. Sometimes the beauty in my life is by accident, other times its intentional. Its there, either way, because when I remember to fill my home with what I loveperson, place, or thingodds are it will be beautiful. Maybe not always appreciated, but always beautiful. If you feel the same, you are welcome to share a link to your own unstyled life in the comments.
Today I am making Nigella Lawson’s Guinness Chocolate Cake for my mother in-law’s birthday party. It’s only a family party, but still. Bah. Parties. I know I’ll have fun once I get there, but up until the moment I am there and enjoying myself, I dread get togethers. I would much rather be tucked up in the flannel sheets, reading a book and listening to the wind travel up and down the branches of our Chinese Elm tree.
I am a homebody.

I feel the same way about ever leaving my house for anything. :) I generally have a good time, but the alternative (staying at home) always sounds better in the moment!

I love Nigella, Guiness and cake. Let us know how the recipe turns out!
I’m weird about going to parties too, until I get there at which point I love them. Still my husband has to drag me out the door almost everytime.

I’m the same way Miss Jules, once I am there I am good. That cake looks really amazing, please take pics;)

I’m the same way too. I don’t want the bother of getting ready and going to a party/get together. But, once I’m there I am (almost) always glad I came.
In the old days I would have preferred reading a good book…these days that just doesn’t happen.

It’s good to see there is a bunch of us out there who aren’t “party animals” :). PJ’s sound far more appealing than a party dress.

I was planning to make Ina’s pumpkin cupcakes for my dad’s birthday tomorrow, but you reminded me that I’ve been wanting that Guiness cake…these life and death dilemmas are so burdensome.

I never realized you have a big Chinese elm in your backyard too! I love ours, it was one of the main selling points of the house. How did the cake turn out?
