{note that even my drawings have typos.}
I’ve changed my mind about my New Year’s resolution. I know, I know. A proper flake would have the decency to wait until March to toss in the towel, and here I am in the middle of January waving a white flag. Still I have to be honest and admit I can’t devote time to planning parties when my attention is elsewhere. And by “elsewhere” I mean home improvement projects and crafty, crafty goodness.
I blame it all on the glittered dinos. Crafting, it turns out, is the new chasing the dragon. Just ask anyone (except most of Hollywood). All you need is one reasonably successful project to push you down a path of no return, a path that involves glue, scissors, paper, swear words, endless hours of frustration, things that suck, things that are cute, blisters, burns, bleary eyes, wounded egos, math, and the satisfaction of a job well done. It’s a wonder I haven’t taking up crafting sooner.
The stamps finished me. I was wavering in my resolve before, but it wasn’t until I used some stamps The Mister bought me (on a whim) for Christmas that all was lost. My niece’s birthday party was on the 9th and, not wanting to do my typed gift tags again so soon, I decided to stamp her name on my favorite tags. Well now, I thought. That was certainly satisfying. It turns out stamping is like playing office, only better.
{Right around here is where my alarmed classmates from law school call each other and make plans to stage an intervention.}
Some of the projects I have in mind to tackle this year include:
- Redecorating the living room
- Redecorating the den
- Painting the rest of the kitchen Polo Green when The Mister isn’t looking
- Decorating the master bedroom
- Reupholstering the dining room chairs (unless I buy the table and chairs God feels I deserve).
- Sewing curtains for the kitchen
- Sewing slip covers for the ottomans (i.e., EPIC FAIL)
- Making this wreath
- Buy three cats
Maybe not the cats. Mikey and The Mister are allergic.

I just want you to know that I love this & totally approve. If we want one resolution more than another one, why not just go for it? This is awesome.
Headless Mom says
I say, just buy the darn table and call it a year. That’s way too ambitious a list for me!
Kelly says
I really like the wreath! And your list, it sounds great. You can get there if you pace yourself!
Meg says
Is this a support group? Because if it is, I should let you know that the week before finals of last semester, which nicely coincided with the 15 days before Christmas, I decided that it was the ideal time to make _that_ wreath.
Look at it this way, when you finally decide you’re ready to throw those parties, your house will look even more awesome!

Oh I am so making that wreath. It screams me.
I too am working on redecorating the home this year. My living room is in desperate need of attention (my DH FINALLY agrees), we’re also going to move the girls upstairs into the spare bedroom to expand our downstairs living space. This entails another horrendous repaint of some wood paneling (not my first choice, but budget speaks this year) and creative design.
I look forward to all your home improvements, I heart your style.

You could always make 3 cats! ;)
Edit: It looks like your CommentLuv plugin may be dead (unless none of your readers write blog posts anymore ;))

Caitlin–Yeah, I think comment luv is dead. I’ve noticed it for a while now, but haven’t had the nerve to fix it in case I break something. Let me go try.
p.s. Your cat link was hilarious. Glad a cat lover like you always takes my cat teasing so well. ;)

that’s a great list! you need to get that table!!! it will complete you :)
fave crafting quote (if there can be one) Dmitri Martin: “glitter is the herpes of craft supplies”
etsy emails have been convincing me that i need more vintage stuff around the house. and my neighbors make fun of me because we painted 3 huge swatches in our dining room. our strategy was that we would NOT live like that and pick a color right away. the 3 loud swatches are still there…May will be a year :) at least it’s a conversation starter. people love to choose sides about the colors…

I’m all for painting the kitchen Polo Green. I just did the same recently. I’d link to a picture but the floors and cabinets have yet to be done and are embarrassing. Anyway, just wanted to pass on some encouragement because it’s a beautiful color!! Good Luck. :)
Jules says
You painted the whole kitchen that color? That’s awesome! Did it read as black or that teal/green in your place?

I find my favorite craft inspiration comes from the dollar store….I already know I have paint, glitter, etc. at home and the tacky stuff at that store just needs some jazz! My favorite project was I took an ugly 4 in. tall plastic wrinkly dog, spray painted it purple, put some blue polka dots on it, and painted its toe nails with red glitter. Instantly a master piece and proudly displayed on my book case :)
