looks scrumptious! as a teacher without regular enough bathroom breaks, I have to avoid coffee in the mornings – makes me have to pee! – so my smoothies are banana, nonfat yogurt, and frozen berries with some ice and water. I’m curious about the measurements though – it really makes four cups with only two cups of liquid and one frozen banana and a few tablespoons of powder/nut butter??? must be some kind of GMO giant banana, haha. i’m also a huge fan of the SCF… and will probably be the sucker who tries the new toasted graham one as well when i’m stateside (living overseas with no starbucks helps me feel better about my five-a-year)
my favorite and usually one of my first stops when i return to the states is target to get a SCF and slowly wander the aisles. i love living overseas but man do i miss target!
Is it just the fancy drinks at Starbucks that are all syrup and not coffee? And Peets uses real coffee for everything ? I am clueless on this stuff but don’t order often.
I just love your blog. It’s smart, witty and encouraging and I’m sure it’s because you are too. I found out about the coffee syrup thing when I went to Dunn Bros. Coffee for the first time. Their “Ice Crema” is good and they sell a really nice cold brew coffee. I remember getting Frappuccinos in high school almost 20 years ago when no one else knew about them and they were amazing. Maybe they used real coffee back then? Anyhow, they’re definitely not the same any more and it makes me sad because I’m sure if they changed things up a bit and added real-type ingredients it would be well received. I’ve tried all sorts of home versions of blended coffee and they stick for a while but then I give up and stop drinking coffee completely for a while. I will definitely have to try this one out. Bitter is better. I’m sure Naomi, Ruth’s MIL would agree. Haha
I make frozen coffee drinks at home by freezing extra coffee into cubes, add brewed cool coffee, vanilla extract, 1/2 & 1/2, and agave syrup. Blend and caffienate! My morning smoothies are virtuous but sometimes–many times– mam
a needs an afternoon boost!
My aunt is a VP at Peets and I can attest to the fact that they have FANTASTIC coffee. Starbucks isn’t even coffee and the coffee they do have is burnt beans.
My husband actually worked in the chem/bev department of a food distribution company when we first got married and one of his jobs was to repair/place coffee machines. Because of that job he actually ended up meeting a grower of coffee who explained the difference between robusta and arabica beans and the correct temperature to brew coffee so you don’t burn it. A lot of places also tend to over roast their beans so you end up with a nasty burnt flavor.
I know all this and I don’t even drink coffee but maybe 4 times a year. And your smoothie sounds like my idea of awesome. Can’t stand sweet coffee.
Dude — I had no idea about the lack of coffee in the famous Frappe! And the “…through my most grievous fault” made me laugh out loud. :)
I make a similar smoothie almost daily, and have never thought to add coffee!!! That might be because of the handful of spinach…and I’m not sure I can put those two hands together…but coffee in my smoothie! Sounds delish.
I miss you! I follow you on Instagram (congratulations on the birth of your little niece, Charlotte!) but it’s not enough to get my Jules fix. I hope we get to see you again here soon.

I know! I have no idea how the volume doubles in size with just one banana! Five SCF is nothing. I was having one M-F!!!!

In Lake Tahoe, the Peet’s I went to made my blended drink using coffee. I’m assuming that’s the case everywhere, but heck if I know! :)
