On trying to know everything
“It pays off.”
On 8th grade
“Mom, Ricky told me he saw two kids kissing, and that he heard that when you get to 8th grade that’s what you do. So basically I don’t want to go to 8th grade. But it’s not like I can skip it so…I really don’t see how I’m going to avoid this.”
On kissing girls in the 8th grade
“It’s inappropriate. And gross.”
On a perfectly nice suit for First Communion
“It’s okay, I guess, but I don’t want to wear it. I was looking for something a little more ‘21 Jump Street.'” [He has never seen 21 Jump Street, so I don’t even know where this came from. –Jules]
On sports injuries
“I pretty much get an injury on any day that ends in Y.”
On magazines
“Mom, those magazines are liars. The stuff they put on the cover is not what you see on the inside. When we were in Vons, I saw a magazine that had Hollywood stuff on the cover and I picked it up and looked inside. You know what I saw? Purses. Purses and Olay.”
Amy says
Nothing like a little inspiration to start the day!
And ‘something a little more 21 Jump Street’ for First Communion . . . :)
Jules says
Oh, I know! In my head I was like…huh? It’s 1st Communion, not an opportunity to score numbers! I’m in so much trouble once this kid hits his teens and actually notices girls.
Amy says
Well, let’s just go with the good Lord’s honoured that he wants to look his best . . . But yes, on the flip side, there is a slight chance you may need to prepare yourself for his teen years. :)
Torey says
So funny!

Ricky is wrong. You kiss a girl whenever it happens that a girl kisses you, LOL – of all the boys/men I know, their first kiss was completely and totally determined by the girl.
And the 21 Jumpstreet had me chuckling until I checked the link. I had no idea there was another one out. I was imagining this 21 Jumpstreet: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092312/
The suits in that link you included are pretty snazzy. Maybe a bit over the top for First Communion, lol, but snazzy. Tell him to keep it in mind for his 8th grade dance! LMAO
Jules says
I would take it one step farther and say that for most men, pretty much anything and everything of note in their life was completely and totally determined by a girl—and continues that way. ;)
Karen F says
pure awesomeness! what a wise (and funny) boy!
Susan G says
Hahahahahaha! I can’t even pick a favorite this time – SO funny and SO astute!
Cristina says
Love it! I am stealing the 21 Jumpstreet comment for my FHC Parent/Child retreat when we discuss attire. ;)
Jules says
Yes, you can say you have a friend who’s 3rd grade son imagines himself the next Tatum Channing, and 1st Communion is his debut.
Heather P. says
I was home-schooled for 6th-8th grade, so I can’t vouch for how much kissing goes on in junior high…but I can say he’s probably right about the magazines. They kind of ARE all purses and Olay…which might explain my strange obsession with purses and beauty products, now that I think about it. ;-)
Good luck with the 21 Jump Street look for communion!
Jules says
My favorite was his response to the purses and Olay. “If they’re going to trick me, they can at least trick me with boy stuff!”
Yeah. 1st Communion. Should be awesome. I never thought finding a suit would be such a challenge!
Cristina says
Have you tried Burlington Coat Factory? I send all my mommies there! And then there is always Nordstroms…
Zakary says
21 Jump Street, LOL!
Lisa in Seattle says
Just glimpsing the title of this post was enough to make my forehead unwrinkle, and for that I thank you.

The on magazines quote made me lol :) Let’s see if he is singing the same tune when he hits the 8th grade on all those ladies :)

I always look forward to the stuff Mikey says!! These are hilarious. But, alas, I did get my first real kiss (the one that mattered forever) in 8th grade.
Love this kid and his outlook!!!

“Purses. Purses and Olay. Priceless! LOL!

“Those magazines are liars” – what a smart boy you are raising! :)
