Happy, Happy

8 Jun

Whew! What a week. We had something almost every day, and you know how I feel about that.

:: Nicholas graduated from preschool on Monday. And thus concludes my role as the mother of preschoolers. Sniff.

:: Tuesday was Mikey’s 8th birthday! As if Nicholas’s graduation wasn’t enough of a reminder that time marches on.

:: I spent most of Wednesday putting together teacher’s gifts. I didn’t recognize myself! Usually I’m slamming my car into a Vons parking space the morning of the last day of school and blindly upending gift certificate end caps into my cart.

:: Intent on making the world counter-rotate, I dropped off all the teacher’s gifts on Thursday–a full day early. Who? What?

:: You know what Friday is? IT’S THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL. In the words of the inimitable Nicholas, “BOOYA.”

:: Saturday should be interesting. I’m going back into program for my disordered eating. I gave myself a break until summer vacation started, and here I am. I wanted to have as easy a schedule as possible to allow myself to deal with the withdrawals and the overall malaise that comes with “Why me; It’s not fair.” That usually doesn’t last more than 4 days, and the serenity that follows is worth the temporary urge to bite the heads off baby animals. I want to greet my 40th birthday feeling mentally and physically strong.

:: Speaking of strength, I’m going to spend Sunday making a business plan for the blog. I had an email exchange on Thursday that I can best describe as equal turns amusing and aggravating. I got the impression someone I worked for considers me and my blog to be to the left of zero. Small potatoes. An insignificant blip on a large radar and not worthy of her time. While that may be true, it won’t be for long. I’m excited by the challenge to grow and develop this blog beyond the expectations of some. It’s on like Donkey Kong.

The last two are kind of weird, huh? They start off not sounding positive at all. Just proof that good can come out of bad.

Have a happy, happy weekend, everyone!

Awesome that you are joining a program to get help. I realized a few months ago that I weigh one pound less than the day before I gave birth to Sam. Not so much a eating disorder problem, but mostly a taking the clean your plate mantra I was taught growing up one step further and also cleaning everyone else’s plate . I think I am getting real close to breaking that habit (and some others) and wish you all the best for reaching your goal of a stronger and healthier you.
    Happy, Happy Weekend!!

that sounds like me. Can you tell us more about the program you’re following (if you don’t mind)? I’ve done Weight Watchers a bunch of times and have been successful taking the weight off, but I always end up putting it back on sooner or later…

WW is great but I am not disciplined enough for the paperwork. i let the stress overtake me the last few months and have not been eating great. when will i learn to take care of myself too?! you’re blog is fab by the way and i’ll shout it from the rooftops!!!

Thank you, Roni! Yes, I will email you right now. It’s what I did a couple of years ago, when I lost the 50 lbs. It’s the ONLY thing that works for me. (I haven’t gained back all the 50 pounds. A little less than half.)

GASP! What? Are you kidding me?! Less than zero? LESS THAN ZERO? Granted, I know it wasn’t actually stated, but to even insinuate. That’s just rude–and ridiculous. But, yes, sometimes people like that are the ones who spur us onward . . . if nothing else than to show ’em. And by George you will!

So here’s to you {and those ridiculously cute boys} and getting healthy–and making it big! :)

Yep, I want to show that person up for suggesting I’m a nothing. Of course, I have to keep reminding myself that vengeance doesn’t get anyone far in the end. I’ll worry about that another day. ;)

Vengeance? Never. You’re just kindly showing them the error of their ways. Of course, by then you’ll be much too important to associate with them. But that’s neither here, nor there . . . :)

My babies are leaving middle school next week…it marches so fast I feel a little like I got in its path and it’s flattened me. And serenity (and the programs that bring them) are all good. The need for regular maintenance kinda sucks, but the benefits are so worth it. Wishing you luck on that one. And on blog growing. Been pondering that one myself. Today is my last day of school, and I’m looking forward to turning my attention to some things I’ve had to put off. After I catch up on some sleep!

Thanks be to our Father who blesses us in immeasurable ways that allow us to “fill up our wells” with things that matter, like meaningful relationships. These things make for an enriched life–beyond that of a middle school-like accounting of successes based on man’s egocentric measurements…

Best thoughts for starting the eating program, it will be hard, but good – satisfying in a way that food can never quite achieve.

    Congrats to Nico, so sweet!

I bought my gift cards and cards early in the week, but totally overslept this morning (never do that) and stumbled out to my car (where I’d left the gifts) to have my kids hurry and sign them while eating breakfast. SO TYPICAL.

And seriously? If your blog is to the left of zero, than I guess that makes my own blog purely a figment of my imagination at this point.
