Darth knows a thing or two about love and the importance of family. He is a fan of replacing generic, big box artwork with large scale photography of grandfathers who fought in World War II.
* The photo is of the Mister’s grandfather taken during the war while he was stationed in the south Pacific. The original size is 8×10. It’s floating inside the frame and, sadly, the sizing is off. It was supposed to go right before the frame’s edge, but the I used wanted to tweak the sizing. They said if it was off I could get it done again for free, but I think it’s okay for now. Honestly, I don’t have the time to drive across town again!
** The books and amber glass chicken, a series of nouns and adjectives I never once imagined writing, belonged to the Mister’s grandmother, who passed away two years ago. I’m selling the small table, which has been collecting dust in the entryway. The Blogger striketh off the list, and the Blogger addeth to the list.
*** New here? For the next 31 days I’m living according to the famous William Morris quote. You can learn more about the project here.

What a great photo! And I love that you paired a photo of the Mister’s grandfather with something from his grandmother {amber and black/grey … be still my beating heart}. Sooo, if you sell the table, whatever will become of things atop the table?
I know, I know … wait and see … sigh.

I don’t know! The whole photo + frame was supposed to be larger, so things are a bit out of scale right now. I had family coming over on Saturday, so I moved the table over there because it looked better there than it did collecting dust and sitting randomly in the entryway. The large vase and teeny amber glass and books don’t help with the scale problem, but it looked better than an empty table.

Love the photo, and of course Darth. If you sell the table where will you put that awesome vase?
I am loving this series. Thanks for the inspiration.

Oh, I really really love that photo. Lately I’ve seen these large black & white photographs on a few design blogs, and I’ve really fallen in love with the overall look. What’s so different and special about yours, though, is the meaning behind it. Family photographs are so special, and in this digital age, I wonder if they’re getting lost in the shuffle. You’ve really brought this photo to life and made it have a place of prominence and importance in your home. Love it! What a conversation piece!

I love displaying family pictures too. I think your photo looks amazing–what a great pose. And the amber glass chicken is too cute for words (hee hee!).
I gave you a fun award on my blog today! Of course, you’re under no obligation to participate. I just want my readers to know how great your blog is. :)

That turned out so cool. Fun, meaningful artwork is the best.
I’m also a bit jealous. All the photos of my grandpa are so small they could never be blown up that large.
Jules says
Yes, they can! A designer taught me a neat trick that I will be sharing this month…if it works. Basically, take a picture of your picture–but make it good and tight. Then blow that up.

That is fantastic, I love it! What a cool picture, and what a blessing for your husband and boys to be connected to their family history in such a unique way. :)

Love it! I’m eager to hear more about the enlarging process, as I have some great photos I would love to display.

Heck yeah and your awesomeness, love the blown up photo and Darth of course.
