I thought my laptop was dying because it just kept shutting down with no warning. It turns out it was over heating due to dust in the fan/vent, so I just unscrewed the back and cleaned out the dust bunnies. I haven’t had a problem since! Hopefully it’s just as simple as that for you, too.
Good luck!
Oh, bummer! I hope that it’s okay. Also strange: I got back home from the holidays and went to turn my iMac on to find that it wouldn’t turn on at all… I took it to the Mac Store and turns out I need a new hard drive. =/ Luckily they checked my Time Machine backups I had running onto an external drive and the last full completed backup was only a few days before I left, so everything should re-load once I get my computer back with the new hard drive. Computers! Ack!
How do you do the time machine backups? My friend was telling me about that last night and is going to show me, but I don’t know when that will be. I think my hard drive is really close to that point.
Went searching through the web and came across this link. It explains how to set up a Time Machine and such on your Mac. I hope that it’s helpful to you. :)
Tanyia routed you to the correct place. And to be honest, my husband set it up but I’m sure I could have/you will figure it out, too. It’s built into OS Leopard and above operating systems, you just have to ‘turn it on’ basically and then it takes a full scan of everything on your computer every hour of every day. It then deletes the oldest backup once your external hard drive is full, but it alerts you of this. Regardless, make sure you back up! I would still be curled in the fetal position right now if I’d lost all of my 13,000+photos from the past 6 years and 6,000-ish songs. Yikes.
Wretched luck! I just faced that myself a couple months ago. Just make sure everything’s backed up and you’ll be golden. I thought everything was backed up. But when I went to bring my photos back over I only had the last two months of 2008. Seriously. How does that even happen?! Sigh.

Ah, there’s the problem. I don’t have Leopard. I’ll see if it’s something my computer can support!

Oh no! It’s like your computer heard about “year of the blog” and decided to take things into its own hands!
