The Mister’s new job focuses solely on the treatment and prevention of diabetes, and it’s part of the reason I went on a health check rampage. He spends his days reading, and then reporting back to me, more than I ever wanted to know about this disease state. He also receives a lot of educational materials and tools, especially for kids. These nutrition plates have to be my favorite. I’ve seen a similar version online, but these are charming and not so clinical. The nutrition breakdown (1/4 lean protein, 1/4 whole grains, and 1/2 fruit and vegetables) is for adults and children with Type I and Type II diabetes, but all of us should eat this way. Of course, I eat this way, so maybe this is more about misery enjoying company.

I love those plates! As a Registered Dietitian, I teach “the plate method” all the time as a simple way to focus on healthy eating, without counting calories, etc. And not just for patients with diabetes – everyone could benefit by eating this way!

I have never seen these before. Love it. I really think this would help put things into perspective for my seven year old who only really likes beige food.
Kelly says
is there somewhere to get those?

What a fantastic plate.
Also, since we now eat this way all the time and on a strict schedule, I am down 15 pounds.
And high five to your husband for everything he does.

What a cool plate! Tell The Mister if he sends me some I’d totally do some promo for him in Ohio LOL.
I need to buckle down and get myself on a good food plan. It was a long, lazy winter and I’m paying for it, big time!

I love the idea. I saw an ad in a magazine and tried to find it online but failed miserably. They had these plates that were a beautiful yellow with white flowers, and the three flowers were different sizes, and each one was the size of the portion for the three things above. It was awesome!!

These are amazing! Great for kids, but I would totally use them as a reminder to myself. Or a guilt trip, for when I don’t manage this ratio.
Heather says
Hey what does the mister do if you don’t mind me asking? My love is a CDE and their responsibilities sound familiar!

Some days, I could probably benefit from one of these plates also ;)
Amy says
OBVIOUSLY, that plate was a misprint, as there’s no place for dessert. Oh wait, it’s probably just a separate plate. PHEW! We’re good then …

So cool! I love bowtie pasta and chicken. Cute.

Those are the cutest plates!

Can you share where to get these plates? I could not find them. Thank you.

Ditto on the WHERE DO YOU BUY THESE? questions. I was thinking I’d use this idea as a jumping off point for making my own plates, but I shared this link and have people asking me where to get them.
I was thinking of:
Painting Plates at a Local Ceramic Studio,
Using Ceramic Markers on Store Bought Plates, or (http://www.makit.com/Markers.cfm)
Drawing on Special Papers and Mailing them in for Custom Plates. (http://www.amazon.com/Makit-Make-a-Plate-Kit/dp/B00009XO55)
Would love a resource for the original design though. Also, would be more than willing to do a Promo in the Albuquerque, NM / Santa Fe, NM / Phoenix, AZ areas.

Hi! I was linked to your blog by Maggie of http://www.maggiesnest.org/ – She linked me to your post about your choice to quit the rat race and stay home, as I touched on today as well. Anyway, I’m enjoying your blog, and I LOVE these plates! Where did you get them? I just realized we have a “Make it” plate kit and I might have the kids make their own! Fabulous!!

I don’t see you have answered any of these comments, but I’ll give it a try anyway…
Can you tell us where we can find these plates? They are perfect for my kids!
Jules says
Hello! I have answered this question in the comments, but my site was recently hacked and it looks like they deleted a lot of my comments. :(
As I mentioned in the post, these plates are promotional items from my husband’s work. They are not currently available in stores, though I wish they were!
Anita says
Oh so sorry about your site getting hacked!
Too bad they aren’t yet available in stores, they are great! And they are going all over Pinterest, so I’m sure they would sell well too!
