I could say I woke up early to write this post before work but the truth is I was already up with food poisoning. We gave up all eating out for Lent this year. The Coronavirus pandemic shutting everything down three weeks later made this a fairly easy Lenten Sacrifice and when Easter arrived, we continued to eat from home. Then, one day I decided we should treat the boys with McDonald’s. They were so, so happy. Too happy for mediocre food that really doesn’t do anything for them other than provide calories. The following week I caved and got Miguel’s Jr. for dinner. Yesterday I agreed to donuts and pizza. Either my husband and I got food poisoning from the pizza or our digestive system waved a white flag all night long.
No matter. This allowed me to be up in time to see Stephenie Meyer is, indeed, releasing Midnight Sun. Meyer says the book will be “decidedly dark.” That hilarious statement, coupled with the cover I believe we are supposed to think is sexy, has me as excited as the boys were when presented with cheap fast food. There will be no nutritional value involved, and at one point there may be regret and pain, but I will savor every last morsel of this unexpected dessert set before me.

Missed your unique voice. I’m glad you’re back!

Thank you! Glad to be back and writing again, even if it is censored and silly.

Lol. No guilt !! Enjoy the cheap read and who knows? It might be a favorite. Crazier things have happened in this world
Sorry about the food poisoning. Sigh
Jules says
I will be very disappointed if this novel turns out to be a dark, well-written novel.
Shaina Smith says
Bahahaha! Oh, to be excited for trash novels. Sometimes, they just really hit the spot, right?
Jules says
The world needs this right now, Shaina.

I remember reading the first series and telling my mom that they were so terrible but so good and then trying to describe them and giving up because I sounded just too ridiculous. I need this in my life right now.
Jules says
We all need this in our lives right now. I want this latest book–need this latest book–to be terrible but so good.

I missed you. Thanks for writing again.
Jules says
Thank you! That was kind of you to say. :)

I am so glad to read you’re writing again! Welcome back. My 22 year old daughter read the whole twilight series and is now re reading twilight. I am embarrassed and sad to say these are practically the only books she has read for pleasure so I have to be happy for ANY reading she does. She does not have my love of reading. She’s happy to hear there is a new book as am I. I’ve never read Twilight or Harry Potter. So many books to read and so little time is my mantra.

I am known for my palate cleansers! It appears there is no in-between for me. I’m either reading what no one else will touch or what everyone else mocks. I used to be embarrassed by my less academic book choices, but working in a library gave me a new perspective. I find it hard to disparage a book that gets reluctant readers reading (and Twilight was one of those series!). I still think we should read more enriching than not, just like we should eat more nourishing than not, but it’s also okay to have fun.
Jeanne says
You are so right. Can you recommend another comparable series for someone who likes romance and I guess fantasy would be the other element. She was up until 2 am reading 200 pages of twilight last night. Now you and I both know it’s hard to read 200 pages of really good writing in one sitting so that is a testimony to the quality or lack thereof of the writing. But I won’t complain. She’s reading! And she just took her last online final yesterday so good for her! My
Mother never hesitated to buy us comic books in the 60s. Smart mom. She knew any reading was better than none and she raised three avid readers. So glad you’re back. No one else quite like you blogging.

I’m making it my mission to read more books for reluctant readers, especially at the middle school, teen, and new adult level. I can tell you the books many teens I know have enjoyed. I haven’t read them myself, but I plan to now that I will be at home more than ever. The Throne of Glass series has been a huge fan favorite for years and will soon be a series on Hulu. I bought the first book many years ago but never read it. I just started it this week. The Selection is another series I have in the library that goes over well. I haven’t read it but plan to. Jenny Haan is another popular author. My recommendations really depend on what it was she liked about Twilight. Lots of people liked the romantic plotline, but other people were drawn to the supernatural elements.
