I’m not the only one who tackled a project this week! The boys went through their video game cabinet and got rid of all the games they no longer play. They took them GameStop and now have $75 in store credit!
When summer started, I decided that I would tackle the ‘me’ projects right before school resumed so that my school year started off fresh. ‘Me’ projects include my makeup drawer, my bathroom, my medicine cabinet, and my closet. I worked on my makeup drawer this week, which was a weird project. Most of my makeup wasn’t actually in my makeup drawer. We travelled a couple of times this year and my makeup never made it back to the drawer. Instead, it housed dozens of makeup samples, powder dust, infrequently used brushes, and a lot of expired makeup.
I tossed out quite a bit, though it’s hard to tell from the pictures since all my makeup was scattered around the bathroom. I tried to limit it to the basics, but did keep all 200 of my tweezers despite knowing the boys will only use the newest, sharpest set on complicated Lego builds. I have two foundations (one full coverage, one a tinted moisturizer), two blushes (one cream, one powder), two primers (one sparkly, one matte), two mascaras (one lengthening, one thickening), and four lip colors (two glosses, two lipsticks). My makeup drawer is the Noah’s Ark of cosmetics.
School is right around the corner and I’m starting to feel the end of summer blues. Anyone else?

Oh I love a good declutter, and $75 in credit? That’s awesome! We’re in our last month of winter here in Sydney, spring is around the corner and I’m looking forward to a few good tidy-up days myself. I also find that when I start doing my drawers and cupboards, some other members of the family get similarly inspired.

Yes, I was surprised at their credit!
p.s. I’m loving your articles at Catholic Weekly, especially the one about spiritual reading.

Looks great! Yes, I have the end of summer blues too. Ever since I saw the school calendar in July, I have been annoyed that they’re starting back so early (August 17th!). We actually went and got school supplies last week so I could avoid the mob for once. We’ve been squeezing all our fun in these last few days.

If it weren’t for the pesky education part, I’d probably homeschool my kids at this age — THAT’S how bummed I am that summer’s almost over.
Way to ease in with serene personal spaces! I have a weird “this’ll be the best year ever!!” tic that sets in come August; it’s a sure sign of doom. I think I should take a moment today to nail down a couple of concrete areas that’ll make the transition easier. Thanks for the inspiration!

I am sad that summer is winding down, for sure.
However, my kids are just bickering so freaking much I am also at the end of my rope. So there’s that side, too. I don’t want them at school yet but I do want them at…a half day summer camp. That would be ideal.

I’m weepy about it. Oldest headed to his freshman year in college 2 states (5.5 hours) away. :( To top it off, his move in day is the first day of school for the younger two and one of their 16th birthdays, so I am both sad to be dropping him off and sad to be missing big events at home.

I love spring cleaning, only with throwing away the old things, then I can start to shop for new things.

This a rule lots of people use that I might have to copy!
