Do you remember the episode of Seinfeld (The Chinese Woman) where Kramer stopped wearing underwear because he was worried they might affect his fertility? He went from briefs, to boxers, to commando. He found the change exhilarating.
I’m on day 33 of my social media fast and I’m loving every minute of it! I know I said I didn’t see the difference at first, but now? I’m a fan. Okay, I’ve had some social media interaction if I include posting links to this blog on Facebook using a personal account that has no posts, no friends, and no likes. It’s an empty account that gives me no access to everything Facebook offers. In short, if it’s happening on Facebook, I don’t know about it. I don’t get caught up in the drama going on at school. I don’t have to read ridiculous political opinions. I don’t know the existence, let alone the date, of the next home party.
It’s been great, but Lent is coming to an end and I’m afraid of what’s next. I haven’t decided if I’m going to go back to posting on Facebook and Instagram. I’m afraid I’m going to get lost in the time suck that is Instagram. That Explore feature is deadly.
I have about two weeks to figure it out.

I am so excited and proud of you! I struggle with the social media thing…I would love more coffee talk with mamas and less FB.

one of my favorite scenes!!! i LOVE IT!!! we have instituted a no technology sunday for our family (with a few exceptions – like exchanging the two days their grandparents were here for two sundays..!!!) and it has been amazing and life changing. immediately after the first sunday, my husband and i were ready to give it ALL UP. our kids had more conversations with us and each other than they’d had in weeks or more. they continue to grumble about doing it and i continue to know it’s one of the best decisions i’ve made as a parent in a long time. so proud of you… and at least when i take time off, i have a hard time knowing how to come back – and find myself questioning over and over … what really matters?? xo

I took a 4 week break, but had big news that was just so much easier to share via social media than individually emailing or calling. That being said, the break from FB was fabulous. I’ve found more time for several things (reading, crafts, getting stuff done around the house…) who knew?
As for Seinfeld- it’s practically perfect. I reference Seinfeld episodes in daily life at least 2-3 times a week.
