Yesterday Nico’s teacher stopped me to tell me about her experience asking the kids to share their favorite Thanksgiving memories. I thought for sure she was going to tell me that Nico talked about his first vegetarian Thanksgiving, and that eating birds is very, very bad.
Instead, when it was his turn, he bellowed (Nico bellows, he never speaks or whispers):
MY FAVORITE PART ABOUT THANKSGIVING IS THAT MY MOM LET US DRINK OUR ORANGE JUICE AND BUBBLY WATER FROM THE GLASSES THAT HAVE STEMS AND A BOWL ON TOP OF THE STEM AND THEN ON THE BOTTOM OF THE STEM IS THE FLAT CIRCLE.
And in case his teacher wasn’t familiar with the wonder of Nico’s glass, he drew it in the air with his fingers using a wild combination of twists and turns like a skywriter writing out the Preamble to the Constitution.
It reminded me of the old saying about babies and toys, and how they usually prefer the packaging over the expensive gift it holds. You think as your child gets older that you lose that innocence, but you don’t. Young, old, and in between, people always remember the itty, bitty things.

That's funny, when I first saw this photo (on instagram I guess?) I was happy to see the kid-friendly drink in the wine glass. My parents always tried to have a special bubbly drink for us kids on special occasions so that's an itty, bitty special thing for me too!

And duh, we HAD to drink it out of wine glasses ;)

Actually, that's our family drink! We always drink soda water with a splash of fruit juice, usually orange. It's my compromise on the no juice/soda rule. We love it! :)

Ah ha! We had that same drink growing up and Ava still gets that OJ/club soda mix for a treat! But this is my favorite part of the story, "You think as your child gets older that you lose that innocence, but you don't. Young, old, and in between, people always remember the itty, bitty things." TRUE THAT!

Haha, the wine glass was the first thing I noticed apart from Nico's cute smile. As kids we felt quite fancy when we got to drink from wine glasses.

I knew he was excited about it at dinner, but to be so excited that he's talking about it one week later? Who knew!!

Well, it is quite exciting to drink from glasses with stems and bowls and flat circles on the bottom. A man of good taste, obviously . . .
