There were a few late nights where I really didn’t want to do yoga in my cramped family room on stinky carpet while Buddy sniffed at me and Mikey and Nico argued about who touched whose piece of lint. On those days, I went on walks. Peaceful, solitary walks. I suddenly fell in love with walking again, so this week I didn’t do any yoga. I think yoga needs to be an early morning activity for me to do it with any sort of regularity. I’m thinking of setting up a little yoga area in my room. This way I can do my yoga first thing in the morning, on hardwood floors, without man or beast driving me nuts.
A few of the days I walked were thick like pea soup. So, so muggy! Horrible. Yuck. I can handle triple digit weather, but humidity is something else. People talk about the fiery depths of hell and how hot it is, but I suspect it’s really central Florida in August. Hell is your shirt sticking to your back.
Listening To: PITBULL featuring T-Pain & Sean Paul
I was in the mood for Latin music this week, so I played Shake Seora by Pitbull. It was my fastest walk this year.

I’ve been getting up at 6am to walk for an hour every day. Although I die inside just a little when the alarm chimes, I find the walking to be transformative. My days are simply better when I do this. And that song is one of my favorites right now – an instant mood lifter for me!

I try to walk every day, and depending on how much time I have, I walk between 2 and 5 miles. During the school year I drop everyone off by 8:30 and go for a walk, but summer camp starts at 9:30, so I’m not getting out there till 10….and it is so gross and disgustingly hot by 10 am. Its really putting a crimp in my exercise routine.
I was just back in NJ for a few days, where the heavens opened with a torrential downpour 2 miles into a 4 mile walk (still had to walk the two miles home, very wet). I have acclimated to California —I much prefer the dry heat we have here to the “slapped in the face with a wet washcloth” that is summertime in NJ.

Thanks for the pretty pictures.
I broke my toe in June, so I’m really missing my daily walks.
Good job figuring out what works for you.

hahaha.. central Florida in August! Yes! (Although I still love Florida and the south in general. Apparently, I was born to acclimate pretty well to hot & humid weather). glad you’ve been out walking again because then we benefit with all the lovely pictures, too.

Clicked to see if it was the same as the Harry Belafonte song from “Beetlejuice.” And it is! Don’t know how you walk to that…I’d be compelled o shake my booty down the street and look like a freak. ;)

Congrats on getting through week 2! I love going on long walks, but between final exams (summer classes…blah) and packing, I’ve been doing more stair-climbing than walking!
Keep up the great work – and now, I’m going to go work on my Costanza. ;-)

I also lol’d for days (okay for seconds) about the FL humidity comment. I’ve lived in south FL my whole life and the summer heat is brutal. Every year I say I’m going to leave FL. Maybe one day?
