I’ve always wanted to wear red lipstick, but the opaque color and undeniably made-up look intimidated me. Red lipstick girls don’t walk, they sashay and wear black stilettos, which they use to push a man to his knees. They fight crime, too, usually in latex. They do a lot of things, but I’m pretty sure red lipstick girls don’t drop off the kids at preschool. Besides, my pale, olive skin and dark hair had other plans. I haven’t had luck finding a good shade in the last 20 years, so I’ve been playing it safe with standbys Aubergine and Black Honey.
For my high school reunion, I wanted to wear red.
I think I found a good color. I don’t wear it everyday, but I’ve worn it often enough since July to conclude that it just might be my red lipstick. It’s opaque, but not matte, and pleasantly long wearing. It also tingles at first, because it has a plumping action. Supposedly. I don’t buy it. The only thing that plumps comes in a syringe but that’s fine. The tingling feels nice and I don’t feel duped.
I like it. Sometimes I will put it on and then turn around and take it off because I feel shy, but for the most part I like my new red lipstick. It’s the Wild Volume Lipstick by Boots No7 in Raspberry Truffle. You can find it on sale at Target.

I want to red lipstick, but I feel like it’s the holy grail and I will never find the perfect shade. Sigh! Maybe some of us are just meant to wear vaseline on our lips at all times. Yours is really beautiful!

I’ve been searching for the right shade of clear red for so long! All of the ones I’ve tried are either too mauve, too pink, too blue or too purple. I want a Gwen Stefani, shiny, lacquered look and I can’t seem to find it anywhere. I’ll have to give this one a try. Thanks!
ps. LOVE the description, “Red lipstick girls dont walk, they sashay and wear black stilettos, which they use to push a man to his knees. They fight crime, too, usually in latex. “

Dare I say it, will I offend? Okay, I’ll say what I’m thinking, hello Snow White…but I mean it in a good way. You look beautiful in that color! I think it is perfect for your skin and hair. I too struggle with red lipstick. I wore it to work the other day and about 2 hours in, I wiped it all off and went back to nude. But I think us moms can pull it off more than we give ourselves credit for.

The red looks great on you!
Also, LOVE black honey by Clinique!

You look amazing!
Red lipstick isn’t just for vampy chicks with questionable morals and a sense of vengeance. Red lipstick is for everyone! My favorite is Lipstick Queen’s Red Sinner which is a great just-about-everyone-can-wear-it-red.
The thing I love about bold lips — especially red — is that it makes you look put together even when you haven’t showered in two days. The human eye sees red first (well, and yellow but yellow lips might not make you feel beautiful — interesting, yes, beautiful? meh.) of the color spectrum. This means your lunch mate or the cashier at the grocery store will see your gorgeous bold lips first and not notice your total lack of concealer! It’s so WIN!

No way.. Red is for sure a good color for you!! Ever heard of Snow White.. ? Yep, she looked good in red too.
I think it looks great, and I’m very jealous btw, red lips are ‘in’ this season.
Jules says
Red lips are in because I have magical powers, remember? ;)
Seriously, I had no idea. I don’t keep up with these things, clearly, because a few of you mentioned that my old purse is back in style, too.

I can’t even take it. I would KILL for your hair and all of your pretty pretty.
I look like a straight hooker in red lipstick. When I was 19 an waiting tables, I used to wear red lipstick. A grandpa type wrote, “Wipe your lips, you look like a hussy” on his receipt and left it on my table when he paid for his corned beef sandwich. So there’s that.

very pretty! what does the mister think of his hot mama?

Your hair is so pretty it is UNREAL! How do you get that effect of the side swept bangs?
Do you style/blow dry/curl your hair at all or is that all natural? Please tell me you don’t wake up and your hair just looks like that…LOL
Jules says
I had my hair colored yesterday, so it’s looking better than anything I could ever do. My hair stylist curled it for me, but it isn’t much different from how I normally wear it (just much, much better). I’ve been curling my hair for 20 years. Seriously, I’ve had the same haircut almost the entire time. The only thing that has changed–aside from a tragic couple of months with “The Rachel” in the 90s–is the length. I should post pictures of when my hair was nearly waist length.
For a great tutorial on how to do beachy waves, I would check out Cupcakes and Cashmere. It’s not how I do it, but her hair comes out really pretty. The way I do it is all over youtube, but I swear you can’t look at those videos more than ten seconds before you want to toss yourself out a window. (Some of the girls like to make kissy faces into the monitor. I can only assume they think it looks sexy.)
Joy_UK says
You crack me up so much! LOL
I only ask cos I have dark hair like yours and I fancy a slight change in the cut. I have a very round face, think full moon and you’ll be nearly there, so I don’t know if bangs would look any good, but I LOVE yours so much! hehehe
I will try to have a look at the tutorials, but I know what you mean about the posers. LOL
You should def post pics of your waist length hair. I am letting my hair grow back now, I also used to have VERY long hair. :)

Very pretty. :) And I love that “Captain Red Beard” is one of the related posts! ;)

I think it’s perfect! I too love the concept of red lipstick, but have yet to be successful in finding the right shade. I wipe it right back off everytime. My coloring is similar to yours, but I am more “golden” olive, while you are porcelain. How did you choose the lipstick you got? Were you just lucky or did you learn a way to do it?
LauraC says
So pretty! And a couple others said what I first thought, you look like Snow White! Dark hair, pale skin, red lips. And of course she’s gorgeous, just like you! I do not like red, will never wear it, but I always think it looks nice on other people.
PJ says
I’m also on a quest to find the perfect shade of red. I’m fair-skinned with freckles but not a redhead, so I can’t figure out if I need a blue-red or an orange-red. And my lips are naturally quite pink, so they always make lipstick look a different shade than it appeared in the tube.
Jules says
My lips are naturally pink, too.
