I don’t know how many of you know of my undying love for elephants. It started when I was nine years old and, despite my fickle nature, it’s still going strong. I have a few elephants around the house, but not enough to make people feel awkward when they come over. In fact, I have done such a solid job keeping the elephant love to a respectable minimum that I doubt they even notice I favor the pachyderm. [mental note: find more reasons to use the phrase “I favor the pachyderm.”] I only buy what I love (muy importante) and try to limit it to things with value, monetary or emotional.
I love it when my friends and family (and even a few perceptive readers!) send me links to elephant related items they think I will like. Here are a few little lovers I have seen online that have caught my fancy. The funny thing is, I received all but one of them for my birthday or Christmas. My friends know me well.
The Jonanathan Adler Elephant Ornament was a Christmas present from Tristan, perhaps the only person who loves elephants as much as I do. She also bought me the sweet little teapot for my birthday. My friend from high school, Tiffany, bought me the Elephant Recipe Cards and Bookplates not knowing I have been a fan of Boy Girl Party for years. The Roost Bottle Opener has been on my favorites list forever since I spotted it a few years ago at Anthropolgie. They no longer carry the openers, but Delight carries the whole bunch. You kill me, Mr. Bull, with your long, sassy horns.
Surely I am not the only one drawn to a particular theme or animal or thingamabob? Do tell. I might find something I think you will like and send you a quick email. They really are the best kind of emails to get.

I have that elephant teapot! Also I have the matching cream and sugar containers, also in elephant form. I also favor the pachyderm. :D

Hi Kasey–You have a great blog, as well. Congrats on the Homies!
Nina–YES. Continue favoring the pachyderm. It’s a good move. ;) Now I must go check out the cream and sugar containers!

Seahorses! I don’t have many though.
Jules says
Is it me, or does Elephant look mispelled? I think the type I used makes it look goofy.
JJ–have you seen the movie Away We Go? There is a funny scene in there about seahorses.

I’m noticing a personal trend toward owls.
Jules says
Owls are super cute. I think Holly from Decor8 might like them, too, because she features them regularly and has a few cute owl things in her house. (I’m thinking of an owl umbrella stand from the 50s that she got a year or two ago.)
Kendra says
I love owls too! I don’t have any, but I find myself favoring owl printed fabrics when I’m out and about. I did recently get this little number (http://media.bordersstores.com/content/images/covers/nightowltote.jpg) for spending some dollars at Borders.
Our theme around here though is sheep. Big ones, little ones, any ones.

Birds! I LOVED a bird pattern that Snow & Graham had that I developed a whole theme around it for my daughters bedroom. Only minimal though…didn’t want to go way to themeee. So she has hand painted bird prints {series of 4} by my sister and then I took the actual paper that I loved and used it as matte board to frame her first photo from the hospital. It is love! I am considering putting some birdies in my {future} home office!!!
Oh I thought I would share this with all of you elephant loves… Elephants represent family, long life, strength and playfulness. In many cultures, these pachyderms are symbols of luck.

My grandmother has hundreds of elephants. I would venture to say that at one point she probably had at least a thousand, but she has downsized since they moved out of their larger home into a small duplex. I LOVE her collection. She has picked them up all over the world and each has a story.
Jules says
Oh, you’ll have to take pictures of it!

I do love me a handsome pachyderm – perhaps it’s because one of my favorite stuffed animals as a kid was a little Elephant, with pink ears, named Elephonto. Though I’m not certain I have a favorite per se … all I can tell you for certain is if you show me an animal with character and I’m done for!
Sara Jane says
I noticed recently that half of my house is covered in birds. I didn’t even realize it but I suppose I naturally gravitate towards all things avian.
My favorite china (not that I own any) is even the Chirp pattern by Lenox.
Vanessa says
Owls. Not sure why but am drawn to them – perhaps because they are cute and wise?! I also just realized I have two handsome pachyderms too. But they are outnumbered by the owls.
Kate @ FrenchSafari says
Ok I finally found you some elephants – you need to see Estrid Ericson and her very Swedish trademark print at http://www.svenskttenn.se/textiles.asp?LangId=2&Cat=410
Happy New Year :)

I’m a first-time visitor (first of many visits, I’m sure) to your blog and I love it!!! :)
My love is reserved for penguins. They are just so adorable. My co-worker has begun a yearly tradition of giving me penguin Christmas ornaments!

i used to love unicorns when i was little. i had a clear glass one (heavy like a paperweight), a pretty painted one, an ugly brass one and countless others. thank goodness that phase is over! now it’s antique maps or things decorated with maps.

but there is a fine line between pretty and gaudy…just like the brass unicorn :)

I’m loving your blog and your pachyderm love. :) Ellies are my favorite and my first trip to Africa was to see them in the wild. They are such amazing animals. If you would like to see some of the pics, this album has some cuties. http://www.pbase.com/cjw/kenya_2007 . I hope you enjoy them.
