Losing five pounds in your first month is very disappointing when you have as much weight to lose as I do. I was shooting for 10 pounds, knowing in later months I would not likely lose as much. I am not giving up, of course, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t cloaked in an overwhelming sense of “bummer.”

I am sorry . . . Try to remember that losing weight it hard! Don’t lose hope- you have still lost some weight overall. That is the goal, right?

I agree with above, you have lost weight so try to focus on the positive. I’m sorry it didn’t go better for you though I am still very impressed!

Don’t be too hard on yourself. The first month of any goal (especially weight loss) can be so hard, because you are trying new things. I think 5 lbs is glorius! Think if you did 5 lbs each month, come Dec you’d be down 60 lbs. (I know, easy math) but think of the positive. It took (years) to put it on, be patient, it will come off.
Good Luck and CONGRATS!

There are always going to be ups and downs and just try to remember at least it is moving in the right direction. You have also had a stressful week so that plays a part too! Hang in there!

I agree…hang in there, you are doing great. Like the tortoise slow and steady wins the race!

Part of the ‘hang in there’ chorus!! You’ll get there. At least you didn’t gain weight like I did this week.

I did gain weight! 1.6 pounds!!
Or do you mean you gained more than that?
cara says
Jules,
Are you exercising? Like I have any room to talk. I’ve gained back what little I lost. I’m still in the “before” look and I’ve been “dieting” for 3+ months now. :(

Hey Jules, totally feel your pain! In the beginning though I would sometimes have a little gain before a significant loss so I am hoping that that’s what this is for you. I am proud of you and the changes you are making and acknowledge how hard it is to report a gain. If you are anything like me you were thinking about skipping this week’s weigh in blog. Now, the biggest advice I can give you is to not wallow in pity and eat the pain away. Instead get mad and prove that scale wrong!

Me again…..any change in diet to blame this on?

I didn’t exercise this week. Many people at my weight don’t seem to need to in order to see a weight loss, but I guess I am not one of them! I stayed on plan all week, but I did eat out several times this week (at the four seminars I went to). I stayed within my point level, but I am finding that processed foods just don’t sit well with me. It must be the sodium and other artificial ingredients.
I’m going to try eating clean this week and taking a few walks and see what happens.

Also have to think of what time of the month it is Jules…I know for lots of women that is a major factor. (I don’t really think it is for me-my weight just majorly fluctuates anyways no real rhyme or reason) I would really keep your exercise light for now-just walking, etc. Just move. Nothing huge…
I like how I’m giving you all this advice and I’m sitting here wallowing in my donuts. :(
I am starting a cleanse program this week though. Oy! (We’re talking lots of carrots, spinach, etc thrown into the blender for a yummy drink/meal–the only solids I’ll be having will be brown rice and steamed veggies for dinners. For.A. Week.)

I feel your pain – there have been way too many days I have wanted to smash that wii fit board who so often likes to deliver news like this to me provided by a nice spike in the weight graph they keep. Don’t even get me started on they then turn my mii into a more “robust” form that the one I had originally created….
I think 5 pounds is great and next week will be better. Sending lots of encouragement! You must try one of those whey protein/fruit smoothie shakes. They are my new breakfast or lunch and they hold me over for a surprising amount of time!

Hang in there chicklet! 5 pounds is 5 pounds – go lift a 5 pound bag of potatoes – see? that’s what you lost – bring it back into perspective a bit. :-)
