Some husbands drink beer. Or watch football. Or play golf. The Mister does all these things, but he also scours thrift stores for mid century finds on his lunch break. Before we moved into our older home we never even thought of looking to thrift stores, antique malls, or Craigslist for furniture. But, as we quickly discovered, the large scale furniture made today does not fit in the smaller homes of yesteryear. So the Mister started going into old, unassuming little stores throughout his work territory and pretty soon he was hooked.
Today was a really good shopping day for the Mister, which is why I have done nothing today but admire his Tuesday purchases.
A new china cabinet (circa 1961) to house some our china and knick knacks. It’s from Craigslist, but we got it today so I’m calling it thrifty. :) It will come in very handy, but we have so many Lladrs from my parents that I don’t even know how to begin styling them. Our motivation for finding a cabinet was a phonecall from my mother who suggested she was tired of storing our collectibles in her garage for the last three years.
And our curtains are up! I love them. Now I just need to find the right wall color.
He also found this nifty lamp for next to the T.V. for $15.
I love the wood neck the best.
But I love the Mister even more.

Lucky you! I love thrift shopping. :-) My husband despises it. :-(

That is awesome Jules! Do you ever hate something he buys though?? LOL that would be my fear…how to handle that touchy situation! ;) Leave it to me to worry about something like that, if I had a dh who would even set foot in a regular store voluntarily…let alone a thrift store!

I know the Mister will get a kick of these comments. :)
I forgot to add that the cabinet is not a thrift store find–I wish! We found that on Craigslist.
Cara–he almost always takes pictures with his camera phone and emails them to me first. Some things that he knows I will love (like our end tables and a vintage radio in our office) he has bought on the spot, but they were very inexpensive.

The Mister sounds like a pro – that lamp is particularly fantastic. He should lead training camps for other husbands!

Well done! I adore this cabinet. Seriously, I want to come to your house and take it! Ok, I won’t, but not because I’m nice, just because I don’t know where you live. So great.

My step-grandmother had almost the same cabinet. It was sitting in my parents basement for awhile and I was thinking of snagging it if I had the space. But I don’t, so I didn’t. It looks good in your space.
