Was laid off today after 10 years with the same company. Not exactly my favorite moment, but there is good in here somewhere. Thanks for all your support over the last month of waiting. :)
Oh Miss Jules, that photo had me all teary before I even read the news. How lucky for you and the boys to have the World’s best daddy in your lives! My heart is with you today.
Jules-that stinks. It just plain does. I will keep you in my prayers…that y’all will find something BETTER! And by the way…That is the first time I’ve seen a full on picture of the Mister….Mikey is almost his CLONE!!!! Holy cow! That smile…
Ditto to everyone else’s sentiments. I am so sorry for this news. :( I hate hearing things like this, and it seems all too common lately. You’re in my thoughts!
Like digging through the poo of an overindulgent toddler to find a penny, there must be something good to this in the end eh?
Tell the Mister he has my sympathies. It *will* be ok.
I was thinking about you guys today and just totally got choked up when I saw that picture.
From personal experience: Cry a bit. Curse even more. And tell that Mister just how proud you are of him (if he’s anything like my guy, he’ll need a little ego-boosting).
As I twittered to you, I am so sorry and certainly understand. I no longer have enough fingers for the friends who have been laid off, all, like your husband, with seniority and/or professional jobs / middle management, etc. Awful if you have young kids, awful if you are 10 years from retirement.
And yet it can be liberating in some ways. Maybe time for you to crank up the creativity path some more!
sh#t! I was hoping for better news for you today :( We’ve been there… it’s not fun but you WILL get through it and I’ll be cheering for you all the way .xoxoxoxox
Coming out of lurking to wish you and your family the best. Husband and I somehow managed to survive layoffs this week (I don’t know who’s dumb idea it was for us to both work for the same division of the same company) and with 1 in 5 being laid off in our division, we are feeling pretty lucky at this point. Of course – that is only until the next round of layoffs. Try to remain optimistic — Hoping this sagging economy will begin to turn itself around!
Oh Jules. Damn. I am so sorry. I’ve lost count on how many people I know or “Pseudo” know through their blogs are losing their jobs. I too lost mine last Feb, after over 20 years in total with the same company.
You will get through this and my prayers are with your family with hopes of something better on the horizon. Your attitude is wonderful and important! I know for me, the upside is being able to be with my little ones instead of sending them to daycare, even if we have no disposable income whatsoever and I’m taking online surveys for the possibility of scraping up a few hundred for the year :)! I hope you too will find an upside and that things work out favorably for you all. I know it’s a different situation when the breadwinner is out of work.
Here’s to just the right amount of time off work, then the perfect job offer with incredible pay, fabulous perks, amazing health benefits , unheard of vacation time, great hours and the joy of doing what you love. There I said it. Let’s see if this law of attraction thing works…”Say it, believe it, receive it”. Best to you and your family.
Oh shoot. I hate to see this news. And I’m late in the game reading it. It’s such a blood bath out there, I understand your situation. I can only hope and pray this means a better job or situation is coming next. Just know that you have a fam over here who sends their support and prayers right to you. Let me know if there’s anything I can do.
O Jules, I am sorry, but it sounds like you have a plan and that yes you will get through this as a family (hugs) I have been there, dh was out of work for 15 months so if you ever need to talk i’m just a email away. I am sure with misters good looks and wisdom, he will be working again very soon.
There are plans for you. You are where you’re meant to be. I promise. Seriously. :) Just follow the yellow brick road and make good choices along the way. You may not end up where you “want” to be, but where you’re “supposed” to be. There is a plan. I’m not crazazy, I just sound crazazy. ;)
I read your post about the layoff and had to write to you. We’ve been there. 15 years with the same company, an engineering degree, sacrificial hour after hour for the company.. retirement, health insurance, income, etc. all G O N E.
We decided we had nothing to loose and started our own business. We would have never walked away from a “secure engineering profession” to start our own business.. but in only 2 years he increased his income by a factor of 5. We couldn’t see it at the time, but the kick in the pants out the door was such a blessing. I hope you will look back and have a similar experience in the years to come.
