I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve watched the video I posted yesterday. Aside from truly enjoying the message, the video has helped me put into perspective a challenging few days.
I do not have a Brady Bunch family, I do not have coffers brimming with gold, and I do not have enough hours in the day to do everything I need to do BUT I do have clean water, thank you very much. Can you really quibble about the insanity (that is actually banality) when there are people out there without clean water and shelter? Sadly, I can and do.
On top of miscellaneous family theatrics seen all over the world, the Mister was robbed again yesterday. The timing could not be worse. With the economy the way it is, with people as desperate as they are, I imagine events like this will only become more frequent. I guess all I can muster is: I don’t know what to say. Rather, I know what I want to say, but I doubt my audience will be receptive to the message.
So I knit to keep from unraveling.
I’ve talked to a few knitters, and the pattern the yarn shop had me start with is actually complicated for a beginner project. That makes me feel better about my rocky beginning. I might start to really enjoy knitting, after all.
I enjoy it especially right now. When it seems like everything around you is falling apart, it feels productive to create something tangible. I am incapable of controlling much around me lately, but I can control my knits and purls. So, forgive me, please, if I spend a little time knitting when I should be writing. It’s the next best thing to crawling under the covers and hibernating until the storm passes.

Oh Jules, I’m so sorry!!! That is awful. Simply awful. Is the Mister okay? Are YOU okay? If there’s anything I can do, just let me know. I sure hope things turn around…very quickly!

I am sorry to hear about your mister, that truly bites – at least he did not get hurt.
I do feel your pain – between our side fence being tagged with an expletive phrase and someone taking D’s fave Toolbox – filled with tools – from his truck (his Dad gave it to him when he was 8 or 9, had his name and Garfield stickers on it) my faith in humanity is dwindling.
I can feel and see that times are tough. Maybe I just need to start watching more Oprah.

Dang girl. Sorry to hear about the Mister. :( I’m glad to hear that he is ok. At this stage where everything seems to be going to hell in handbasket.. this is JUST what you all needed, right? :(
Keep your head up girl, things seem to get worse before they get better.

Oh no! I know how hard this was last time for you, and to have it happen again? I hope everyone is physically ok (I’m guessing so as you probably would’ve written about it). Make sure you give and get lots of hugs! They’re theraputic :) Especially little kid ones.

Ugh…so sorry Jules. Being robbed is such a violation in so many ways. And I know it affects more than just the person robbed, but ripples out to affect those that love them. I am glad you have found knitting. I hope you make something for yourself or the Mister. Something you can cuddle in and feel some warmth and a tad bit of safety. Sending good vibes to your lovely family…

Oh no! So glad to hear that no one was hurt. It’s just so frustrating when you work really hard for what you have.

Jules – so sorry to hear about the robbery. Take care of you and your family {hugs}

Oh My Gosh! The mister was robbed again? How awful. Does he work in a bad part of town? Is he okay? He should carry pepper spray or something. Hope things look up for you soon. Times are tough right now…

Jules-
So sorry to hear about what happened. :( You are right, with the state of things right now that is prob’ly more common… Hang in there, and remember, the Brady’s were one of the most dysfunctional families out there ;)–Mr Brady was gay, Mrs Brady was screwing Jr Brady and then I heard some of the siblings were involved **shudder** So, be thankful you don’t have the Brady Bunch Family! ;) ((hugs))

That sucks. I’m super sorry.

I’m so sorry this has happened to you and your family. I don’t know why bad things have to happen to such good people.

i’m so sorry! i’m trying to come up with a knitting-inspired-silver-lining joke to make you feel better but it’s just not coming together. but trust me, the first time you figure out how to knit tiny little baby booties (it took me like a year but you have a law degree so i’m sure it’ll only take you eleven months) your heart will positively explode, you’ll never be able to stop waggling them around going “soo teeny!” and maybe by then the robbery will be a faded memory.
