Now that the Olympics are over, what do you say we all get some work done? And maybe go to bed before midnight? While normally not a sports fan, my eyes have been glued to the TV for the last 17 days.
Some observations:
Even when happy, Nastia Liukin looks sad. Something about her eyes makes her seem like an old soul.
I will never be mistaken for 2008 Olympic Gold Medal winner (Women’s Marathon), Romanian Constantina Dita.
This little troll stud (?!) bugged the crap out of me. Too much frat-boy testosterone coursing through that 5’1” frame. Oh, and walking hunched over and pushing your shoulders forward does make you look broader, but it also makes you look like you are walking hunched over and pushing your shoulders forward to make yourself look broader.
Watching Michael Phelps win 8 gold medals was awesome.
Usain Bolt was impressive, and has a very convenient last name. But would it kill him to save the showboating until he actually crossed the finish line? I admit I would not have cried tears into my pillow at night had he tripped on his flapping, untied shoe lace two feet from the finish line.
Something tells me he likes the attention.
Did you watch the Olympics? Are you tired, behind on work, and simultaneously happy/sad it’s over with, like me? What observations did you make during the Olympics? What do you think of the Chinese age controversy? (Nice collar, IOC young dude)
p.s. Since the Olympics are over, look for How I Met the Mister, Part II tomorrow!

I watched waaay more Olympics this year than in all my years put together. I definitely feel the Chinese gymnasts aren’t a day over 12, and noticed the same about Luikin. Never quite seems happy- but it’s got to be tough having an Olympian for a dad.
But I’m glad it’s over. I really missed the fourth hour of The Today Show (ha ha ha ha ha ha ha NOT!)

This was hilarious. I really enjoyed the laugh and your commentary. If you had been hosting, I would have stayed up past midnight during each competition to hear your opinion on everyone.
Instead we Tivoed girls’ gymnastics, kayaking all the swimming and the horseback riding. Oddly enough the offspring enjoyed watching it all. Go figure.
Amazing about the age scandal. But hello, that little thing did not look a day over 14, don’t you think? She’s really a bad a** though.

I agree! I need an earlier bedtime and the olympics were not helping. We watched every minute of Michael Phelps (oh, and could you photoshop that suit down just a bit more so I can see that (temp?) tattoo he’s sporting?), loved seeing Dara Torres (how inspiring is that to a 40-something mom?), cheered for the Americans in beach volleyball and soccer (those women rock!), and thought the never ending coverage of the women’s marathon was just plain boring (just cut to the finish already will ya?). And the gymnastics were cool – do you think my 13 yr. old son has a picture of Shawn Johnson on his phone because she’s a great athlete or because she’s cute? ;-)

all great observations! I too got completely hooked and was up WAY too late for the last 2 weeks watching away. I never imagined volleyball could suck me in the way it did. Didn’t see that coming :)

My goodness Miss Jules does the hilarity ever stop? I risked being fired (no really death by firing squad, my boss is totally old school) to read your blog and lasted about a minute before I started choking on my coffee, thus bringing attention to myself, my key strokes and my obviously non-work related activities. “I thought it was a design blog, really….” Thank being able to make me smile…..
Miss B. says
Sorry, the last part was thanks for making me smile, it came out a little like I had marble in my mouth (or brain…)

I believe I liked your update about 20 times more than the Olympics themselves! What a gift for words…
Jules says
Thank you, Kristi! I love how you track on your blog an ongoing list of books you have read this year and last. I might have to borrow that idea. And by ‘borrow’ I mean copy shamelessly.
