I know I rarely post on the weekends, but I’m too excited to wait until Monday. We finally found a dining table, and we found it on Craigslist!
This is the table I was alluding to in this post. I wasn’t 100% in love with it, even after seeing it in person. I ran it past by trusty design pal, Nicole, and she wasn’t sold on it, either. I believe her words were, “the chairs are ugly enough to almost be cute.” Hah! I happen to disagree with Nicole. The chairs were what I liked–they remind me of something you’d see in church–and that little sway at the base is the perfect cradle for a fat ass, namely, mine.
Well, I kept coming back to it and after a few days decided to buy it. For what it was selling for, I could afford the risk. The table and chairs are now in the house and we love it! Sure, we need to clean it up and reupholster the seats (that’s the original avocado green upholstery!) but I think eventually it will all look pretty fabulous. Did I mention it comes with three leaves (one never used) and extends to seat twelve? Perfect for dinners with family!
I’m not sure what fabric I’m going to use when we reupholster the chairs. We’re in the process of selling our living room furniture, so I think the best thing to do is hold off until we know what the adjoining living room will look like. With Mikey’s allergies (and the Mister’s) it’s been recommended that we buy furniture you can vacuum under, like this one. It helps control the dust and dog hair, and in the end will temper the breathing problems Mikey is having. The goal is to save Mikey from developing chronic asthma. Right now, it’s only cold induced.
OK, so that’s it! Random post, but that’s to be expected from me. Oh, and now for a random question. If any of you know where I can find more sofas like the one I linked to, please comment or email the links. So far I’ve checked out Crate and Barrel, Room and Board, Pottery Barn, CB2, West Elm, IKEA, etc. The usual suspects. The Mister really wants a tight back and seat (no cushions!) because he hates how the seat cushions and backs wrinkle and deflate over time. Yes, he’s as crazy as me. I thought Nicole and some of you other design savvy readers might have a better idea than me. Yes? No? Maybe?
Either way, have a great weekend! :)

Congrats on your find. I think it’s a great table and chairs. I can’t wait to see what you find to re-do the chairs in. Good job on bargaining with the seller. That baby looks promising. Maybe you should feed him some spaghetti!

I love your table. I hear avacado’s making a comeback. Just a few quick questions…does asthma run in your family? Has Mickey had a pulmonary function test? (sorry I’m a respiratory therapist, I can’t help myself)

Okay, I pee’s my pants(again) that comment about throwing in the baby boy was too much…

Hi Sarah. :)
Asthma doesn’t run in my family, unless you count my brother. He has/had chronic bronchitis/asthma from smoking for about 10 years. Thankfully, he hasn’t smoked in years and he seems to control both with a good diet and healthy lifestyle.
Mikey has not had a PFT. This has only been going on since October. He has been sick, pretty much on and off, since then. He started preschool in Sept. It seemed like he was sick constantly, and his colds were getting progressively worse. Instead of the usual dry cough, it turned into loose and wet. We took him in and he was wheezing (slightly). Antibiotics (he had a high fever), albuterol, and steroids. The doctor said if it happens a few more times we would have to consider asthma.
It’s happened once more (Feb) and I asked the ped. if maybe he was allergic to something in his environment. That’s why we did the allergy testing, which as you know came back positive for cats, dogs, eggs, and dust mites.
Since I’ve been cleaning round the clock and eliminated eggs, he has done better. (knock on wood)
The ped. is most worried about the dust mites. He is only mildly allergic, but he says that now is the perfect time tio nip it in the bud and reduce the exposure as much as possible. (there will always be dust mites no matter what). So, that’s why all the little steps I’ve been taking (vacuuming everyday, hot water washes for all bedding 1/week, dusting, etc.)

It sounds like you doing all the right things. Keep up the good work! I would consider getting him a rescue inhaler/nebulizer of albuterol just in case. Attacks can be really scary…and lethal.

Er, did I say that? ;) I do like them though! That is totally the same upholstery my chairs have too.
As for sofas we have the Jasper (similar to the one you posted). It looks great, but yeah the cushions are smooshing up in odd ways. If I were buying a new couch, I’d go for a tight back (I don’t mind loose seat cushions). I do like this couch, EXCEPT for the legs. Bleh.
Jules says
Nicole, that is the couch I am currently obsessing over. And, terrible as this is, there are manufacturers in LA that will make it for at half the cost. The only reason why I haven’t bought it is because of the legs! What a PIA is it would be for me to dust along that bar along the bottom. No thanks.
You know, Decor8 posted this sofa about a year ago, and the Mister and I went to check it out. It was shockingly nice, given the price!

Nice new table and chairs! I just purchased some fabric from here: http://www.daisyjanie.com. They are her own designs and look even better in person!

Try Ethan Allen on line or Lazyboy for your couch? Although it seems they are common, they have some things on line that are interesting. Your table looks like a good find. Upholstering the seats is such an easy way to give it some punch!
What the doc say about Mickey’s ear? Did they give you a decongestent? That always helps keep those bugs from pinching.
Jules says
Hah! I’m trying to sell my Ethan Allen sectional right now! :) I’ll have to go to the store and see if they have any sofas in the style the Mister likes.
The doctor said fluid in the ear, due to allergies. We have him on zyrtec and motrin for pain, and he’s doing great now. Thanks for asking! :)

What a great find. Those chairs ARE the best part.
