The Mister likes to say he can always find me by following the trail of half-completed projects. Hah hah. That’s really funny. I’m totally laughing. On the inside. Questionable comedy notwithstanding, the Mister will have to rework his routine because Mikey’s allergies have achieved the impossible: I’m cleaning regularly. That’s not to say I was dangerously messy before. The Mister likes to exaggerate because he knows it gets a rile out of me and because he is one folded towel away from being that guy in Sleeping with the Enemy. I never had one of those rooms with bags of forgotten Target bargains. No molded over bowls of food sitting on end tables, either. No, my house never looked like a bomb went off. It just looked like I was making one.
But the times, they are a changing. I now vacuum and dust every other day, sometimes everyday. I do at least one, usually three, loads of laundry a day. I don’t even have too many hot zones of clutter anymore. I have a few, but they are disappearing as I delve deeper and deeper into Operation Dust Mite and Misc. Allergen Annihilation. Even my taste in furniture has changed. The other day the Mister and I were in Crate and Barrel looking at an entertainment unit. I told the Mister it was gorgeous, but not for us because the rough finish and low profile would make it difficult for me to dust and vacuum around. The Mister was so thrilled with my observation you would have thought I had just revealed I was naked under my trench coat. What ever floats your boat, Mister.
Speaking of furniture, we’re selling ours. Almost all of it, including our behemoth sectional. With all the cleaning I have to do, it just makes sense to have furniture I can dust and vacuum under, rather than move everything around like I do now. If I need to deep clean everyday, I’m making it as easy on me as possible. This charming little sofa from Macy’s is exactly what I need to simplify my life:
Simple, right? Exactly. Simple is what I need right now, and I’m going to get it. I took a long hard look around my house and decided that if I don’t love it or use it, I’m selling it. I’m just tired of feeling weighed down by possessions I don’t need. We have a garage full of furniture that doesn’t fit in this house, but until now I’ve resisted selling any of it because they were so expensive. Well, too bad. I may have paid a fortune for it five years ago, but it’s not increasing in value sitting in my garage.
The time has come to declutter my house, and with any luck, my life.

I love your choice of new couch. This past summer my husband and I moved from our 2bedroom condo into a much larger house. I did the declutter thing twice. Once as I was packing and again when I unpacked. If I couldn’t find a place for it, i got rid of it. I’m much happier without all the crap. You will be too.

Its amazing what love can do, huh?
I love the new couch! Very stylish and sounds like it will work out great with your cleaning routine.

I love de-cluttering, cleaning, throwing things out. It makes me feel proactive (not like the zit cream but like the power). I think you’ve inspired me–off to throw some shit out (rather than try to write–I am ALL talk, I tell ya’!).

Alright — legit couch owner here to pipe up. As 2 architects, the man and I did a rediculous amount of research on sofas before picking the same one you have there (except in chocolate brown). Despite Macy’s mucking up BIG time (the usual 10+ week backorder, but that’s another story), the finished product is holding up well, the price really can’t be beat, and short of shelling out 4k or more for a tank– its a pretty solid choice! Have you seen the “celery”/green in person? It could work, but I was adamdant that my group (couch.me.cough) have a tendancy to fling wine glasses around when things get spicy…so chocolate it was. For spillage sake.
As for getting rid of stuff — I’m all for it. It’s phenomenal how much crap we all cart around most of the time, and how little of it we actually remember/need it.
I’m looking forward to see the progress of the place!

Little Miss: I saw this couch on Decor8 a year ago and my eyes popped out of my head! Macy*s? Really?! Now that we are in the market, we went everywhere and did the same ridiculous amount of research. DWR, Room and Board, Crate and Barrel, and a bunch of other places online and in stores. We just kept coming back to this sofa. We like the legs, the tight back, and the narrow seat cushions. The Mister is sold on the Pear green color. We’ve had dark sofas so we wanted a change. I wanted the stone color, but he thought it might get too dirty. So, we got the chair in stone.
Did you get the fabric warranty? I normally don’t buy those things, but the reviews were great. It covers everything (including wine spills!), and if you don’t use it by the end of 7 years you get the money back in the form of a gift card. (I can’t imagine not using it in 7 years w/ two boys, two dogs, and a Mister.) ;)

Ah jules:
we- of the childless & often prone to move- figured that our time in NYC was limited, and that for ease of transport, we would probably just sell the couch and start over in the next city.
But yes, the warrenty is a brilliant move, and I believe my vote for the chocolate stemmed more from the fear of turning into a “beige farm”, as the stone was the alternate color. Good luck, and I’m sure the kidlets will put it through the ultimate test!

I live next door to Beigeland in Chocolate World. I’m hoping the green sofa adds some color…and that I don’t get sick of it!

Love that sofa!

Buy a leather couch in the same style if you are trying to avoid dust mites and allergens. Fabric just holds onto those suckers like glue!
Jules says
Jackee– I know! That’s what I keep telling the Mister. I’ve looked around, but I can’t find one. If you see one let me know! :)
